Blade & Soul - Blackram Officer Uniform (Jin Outfit) Mod

This week, we are back to Blade & Soul skin mod and the outfit being mod is the Blackram Officer Uniform for Jin race.

For those who do not play Blade & Soul, the Blackram is a large organization of pirates that spreads over the world, with presence in both Stratus Empire's and Talus Dominion's territory. The Blackram pirates are organized by the North, South, East and West zones, having names such as Blackram East Fleet and Blackram South Fleet. Each fleet is led by an admiral but the highest command remains a mystery. The Blackram's formation was initially to oppose the oppressions by the ruling elites but eventually some groups become corrupted.

The first Blackram that the player comes in contact with is the Blackram South Fleet, mainly led by Captain Gwon, which constantly raids Bamboo village for supplies. The otherwise peaceful Bamboo village is located on the west continent and very near to Heaven's Reach (Home of Hongmoon School), where the player was knocked off into the sea, by Jinsoyun, at the start of the game. The player was rescued by the ex-Hongmoon Dochun, who is also the guard captain at Bamboo village.

However, this outfit is only obtainable after the player hit the eastern continent's Moonwater plains, where the player find themselves pitted against the Blackram East Fleet. The outfit has a random chance to appear in the chests dropped by the bosses in East Fleet Supply Chain dungeon, which is headed by Vice Admiral Poharan - the granddaughter of East Fleet Admiral Hae Mujin. The East Fleet Supply chain is a world dungeon where anyone (up to 24) can enter to take part in completing a series of quests. It was also one of the most visited dungeon in older contents, where players can make some gold and get some decent gears.

The appearance of the outfit is mainly black with red linings, and looks like something out of the old martial arts world. It has a long robe and skirt which covers the back and front respectively, all the way down, past the knee; forming two slits that run down the sides, from the upper thigh to reveal the leggy legs. The uniform also included a pair of long gloves and belt accessory.

Take a look at the original outfit below.

Front View - Original Outfit
There's no collision detection between the leg and the skirt so the left leg can be seen 'protruding' from under the skirt.  😆

Front Close-up View - Original Outfit
Hmm... The cleavage area is blackened out.  😞   I don't think it's censorship but the intended design since there are so many other outfits putting the cleavages on show...

We can see the belt accessory hanging by the side of the left leg.

Side Close-up View - Original Outfit
There's nothing much that I want to mod on this outfit except for that blackened chest and maybe the length of the robe/cloth. Not sure why the chest is blacked out but I guess it will look more exotic with skin color.  😛

Let's view the modified results below.

Front View - Modified Outfit
First thing first, the black out area is now delightfully skin.  😃   But there is discontinuity issue between the skin layer and the black out area, so I have to keep the inverted 'Y' shape 'string' on the chest to hide the problem.

Front Close-up View - Modified Outfit
Guess I was too greedy to remove the cloth at the front, as I thought something will be left over to cover the front of the panties but I was wrong. Well... I am too lazy to put it back so... there it is, using only the belt as cover.  😥

Rear View - Modified Outfit

Rear Close-up View - Modified Outfit
Hmm... guess I cut off too much on the back too.  😅

Side View - Modified Outfit

Side Close-up View - Modified Outfit
Well, at least now we have a full, unobstructed view of the leggy legs.  😊

Actually, I had also recolored the panties to dark red but you probably can't tell the difference since you can't see the original one under that long robe.  😝

Catch more of the outfit in the video.

AION - Forest Denku's Frillycoat (to Fairy Tail Mavis) Mod

Last week, a viewer has asked whether it is possibile to create a mod that resembles the characters in the anime "Fairy Tail", such as Mavis, Zeref and Erza. He also recommended the Forest Denku's Frillycoat as a look-alike to Mavis' dress. Mavis' dress actually looks very simple and can be easily done up in real life but for skin mod, mesh design (3D model) causes a lot of constraints.

For example, Mavis' dress has the three pieces of cloth on the front of her torso. In order to paint those onto an in-game skin, it will need to have a flat surface that is not overly stretched. If the surface follows the contours of the breasts, anything drawn onto the skin would become distorted.

After checking out the Forest Denku's Frillycoat, I do agree that it kind of resembles Mavis' dress, except for the length of the dress, rounded sleeve instead of trumpet sleeve and an additional coat over the basic dress. But it helps a lot that the mesh at the torso portion of the costume is straight and not overly stretched, which enables the blue squares and triangles to be drawn on without becoming distorted.

The other good reason for using the Forest Denku's Frillycoat is that, it is a five piece costume, which can be worn separately. Thus, you can just wear the chest piece and leave the rest out so you wouldn't have the wooly shoes, gloves and tail which sticks out from the back of the leg piece.

Let's take a look at Mavis dress in "Fairy Tail" anime and the Forest Denku's Frillycoat to make a comparison.

Mavis (left image from http://fairytail.wikia.com)
and
Forest Denku's Frillycoat (right image from https://aionpowerbook.com)
From the image above, we can see the similarities in the dress and the coat. Do note that the Forest Denku's Frillycoat above included the hat and shoes which can be unequipped. You can also notice the main differences (length, sleeves and coat) that I have mentioned above. Other than that, Mavis also wears a shoulder cloak which the Forest Denku's Frillycoat does not have.

And so, I proceeded to work on the Forest Denku's Frillycoat in which, I firstly turned the entire dress and coat into an uniform pink color.

Next, I painted the three symbols on the torso area. Because of the open center design of the coat, I painted one of the symbols on the dress itself and two other sides on the coat. The three symbols ended up shorter than what Mavis' dress have because the length is limited by the coat (unless I make two short ones at sides and one long one in the middle).

Thirdly, I trimmed the sides and back of the coat to make it less obvious. However, the side and back of the coat cannot be excessively trimmed because it will leave a hole.  😡

Then, I tried to find a suitable shoulder armor similar to that of Mavis'. But the closest that I can find, with the design that covers the entire shoulder, is from the Orichalcum Key. Although I repainted it to full pink and removed the excess accessories, it still does not look that much like Mavis'. 😡

Let's look at the final result below.

Front View 1

We can see immediately that the length of the dress and the three pieces of cloth on the torso are shorter than that of Mavis' dress.

Front View 2
Do you think we should remove the two additional pieces of cloth at the sides of the cloak?

Front Close-up View 1
In the image above, you can see the two sides (on coat) are a layer over the center piece (on dress). We can also see the 'leftover' of the coat which cannot be removed due to a hole beneath.

Front Close-up View 2
Well, the cloak does not wrap around the neck like Mavis' cloak, but this is the only shoulder in game that have the closest design.  😅

Rear View
In the image above, we can see the 'leftover' of the coat at the back. It will be a hole if the region is removed.  😦

Side View
Yep. The rounded sleeves can be seen above.

Side Close-up View
Unfortunately, the mesh sets a lot of restrictions. A 3D modeler should be able to lengthen the dress, adjust the sleeves and maybe even the coat, but that's beyond my capability.  😦  Unless someone can point me to a free 3D modelling software that can handle a diversity of model types.

Well, I guess for now, we'll need to find a hairstyle and maybe a hat that can be modified to look like those feathers on Mavis' head. But I don't recall seeing a hairstyle in AION that is as long as Mavis'.  😅

Another costume that I find closely match Mavis' dress would be the one worn by the pet NPCs who stroll Veteron Citadel and Eltnen. It has the required length, trumpet sleeves and a layer in which the three symbols can be drawn. Unfortunately, the torso portion is stretched and thus caused the symbols to become distorted as shown below. This does not affect the original costume because it is just a plain color on the torso.

Distortion on Torso
Overall, I'm not fully satisfied with the mod but that's the best I can do without altering the mesh.  😞

Blade & Soul - Wolfskin (Yun Outfit) Mod

Before I head back to Jin outfit for the next post, let's have a look at the Yun Wolfskin outfit. With a name like that, you can probably guess where this outfit came from. Well, you are half right. The outfit has an origin linking to a wolf-like Sacred Beast but the outfit is not skinned off the creature as you might think. 😮  In fact, the Wolfskin is acquired by, yet, spinning another Wheel of Fate.  😆

Yup, you guessed correctly. The token, Lycan's Essence, needed to spin the wheel is obtained from the Sacred Beast.

Just in case you are a bit curious about the Sacred Beasts, here's a little information. They are mighty sentient creatures that fought against the Dark Lord's invasion, alongside the Four Guardians. Lycan the Mighty is one of the Sacred Beasts which was heavily tainted by Dark Chi during these battles and went into hibernation in hope of cleansing herself.

Lycan's bravery and ferocity in battle earn her the respect of the Lycandi tribe, which worships her as a God-like figure. Lycan made the tribe took a vow to put her back to sleep, in case she awakens before the cleansing is complete. During her hibernation, Lycan stood, in the form of a stone statue, atop a hill which overlooks the Lycandi tribe.

Unfortunately, Jinsoyun's meddling with the balance of nature caused huge amount of Dark Chi to leak into the land and the Dark Chi in Lycan erupted as a result. Awakened in her tainted state, Lycan is on the verge of being turned into a powerful demon. It was through the effort of the Lycandi tribe and the Last Hongmoon (the player) that Lycan is able to return to her hibernation once more. As a reward, Lycan granted her life essence to the Last Hongmoon to help suppress the Mark of the Black Rose - a wound inflicted on the Last Hongmoon when Jinsoyun massacred the clan.

The video below shows the scene of the tainted Lycan awakening and promptly put back into hibernation by the Lycandi tribe, with the help of the Last Hongmoon.

Well, I guess that's about all for the story. The Wolfskin outfit shares a good resemblance to the Sacred Beast herself, with blue, white and black colors (Note: Lycan in the video is mainly black and white due to the Dark Chi's corruption). The torso part is a furry, dove-neck dress with bare-back design. It also sports a pair of furry stockings and glossy arm guards. The outfit comes with two adornments, the Lycan's Sorrow Mask and Lycan's Tail Feather.

Let's look at the original outfit with the tail adornment below.

The white regions have a furry texture with black stripes.

The tail adornment comes as a pair of 2 feather-like tails.  😍

Side Close-up View - Original Outfit
The only thing that I dislike about this outfit is that really bulky looking skirt which make the hip region looks tenfold thicker.  😦  Well... that's not counting the weird-looking high heel shoes.

So for the mod, I tried to remove that bulky chunk of fur surrounding the waist area. Sadly, I found a huge disconnection between the waist and thigh when I did that, and so, I can only perform a trim instead of a total removal.

I have also removed the white layer over the cleavage because I am envious of the Jin's and Gon's open style design (i.e. cleavage in the open).    😝

Check out the mod outfit below.

Front View - Modified Outfit
Notice more distinction between the thighs and the furry skirt?

Front Close-up View - Modified Outfit
Yup! Cleavage spotted!  😍  No more being envious of Jin or Gon!

Rear View - Modified Outfit

Rear Close-up View - Modified Outfit
With the trimming of the skirt at the sides and back, we can now steal a peek in between.  😅

Side View - Modified Outfit

Side Close-up View - Modified Outfit
After trimming, there is now more clearance between the skirt and the thighs and thus, the hip area doesn't feel as bulky or huge as before. For the Jin version, the skirt can be totally removed to give it a lingerie feel.

Finally, don't miss out on the video below.
