AION - Prime Guardian Royal Captain Hauberk Mod

Last but not least on the Prime Guardian Royal Captain armor series, we have the chain chest, a.k.a. hauberk. However, this hauberk does not quite look like what we would expect of a chain armor. The only prominent chain that I can find on the hauberk are the three chains that connect the neck accessory to the bra area of the blouse. The main design of the hauberk looks more like a blouse, and in fact seems very similar to a cloth armor worn by Sorcerer, Spiritmaster and Songweavers from another armor series. Any players like to name the look-a-like piece?   XD

 

Anyway, similar to the tunic, the hauberk also has a pair of translucent sleeves, except that the sleeves are 'omg' trumpet shape (  O.O  ) with leaves-like structure at the end...

 

The basic armor looks like a blouse with a low-cut front and the bottom is made up of three layers of short skirts. The lowest layer of the skirt is a piece of translucent cloth with a 'tail' dangling by the right leg.

So anyone notice any considerable amount of chain?  >.<

 

Hmmm... What should I do for the mod then? First of all, my utmost enemy must go! Yes... I mean the trumpet sleeves, although I did not remove the entire sleeves. I find that by simply removing the leaves structure at the hand, it would ease the 'trumpet' feeling by quite a lot.  o.o

 

Next, I tried to play around with the skirt. I kind of like the translucent layer and was hoping to stripped away the two top opaque layers, keeping the translucent one. Unfortunately, removing either of the top two layers would reveal holes and discontinuity between the tummy area and the skirt. So being the stubborn person that I am (to strip away the opaque layers), I make the two opaque layers as short as possible without revealing any discontinuity or holes.

 

Finally, I modified the cleavage area by shortening the longer pointy edge and modifying it into a transparent layer. Oh, and not forgetting to make the translucent layer even more so.

However, over here, we can clearly see the transparent layer at the cleavage and the shortened second opaque layer. I can't totally remove the cleavage area as there will be a hole, and simply repainting to skin would create a 'floating' layer, which are both undesirable.  ~.~

Wonder if anyone can notice that there is now more transparency on the translucent layer...  XD

If any eagle-eyed viewer notice the black index finger on her hand, no... it is not a mistake... It is actually the design of the hand armor which consists of a wrist band and colored finger nails. But the most interesting design is a 'finger armor' that she wears on the tip of her index finger!  O.O

Given that the torso area is tight-fitting, I probably could have modified the entire area into a transparent layer like what I did for the Kunax Jerkin. However... I think... my naughty mode was not turn on for this mod.    :p

AION - Adma Hauberk Mod

For the last Adma armor set series, we have the chain chest or Hauberk. Well... The word 'chain' is a bit misleading because you will find that the armor is almost entirely made up of cloth...  >.<

The hauberk mainly looks like a short dove-neck blouse with long trumpet sleeves ( -.-), black stockings and a furry scarf (wrapped around the neck) which is a nice addition. Similar to the other versions, the hauberk also has a golden frame on the torso and has two 'antennas' at the back like the cloth version (tunic).   >.<"  The back of the dress has an extended layer over it which slightly reminds me of a sparrow-tail tuxedo.

For this post, the video and images are captured in a special instance in Inggison for level 55 characters, known as Esoterrace. It is special because, unlike other instances which are mostly 'contained' inside a structure, it is created to look like an open-world area with beautiful landscape, a lighthouse and even its very own version of Niagara Falls in the background.  O.O   Too bad though, that we can't get to the falls except to admire it from afar.  D:   But I think most players just jump right into the Windstream at the start of the instance and arrived at the first action area, which is a beach, without stopping to enjoy the scenery.   :p

My images do not capture major part of the fall because of the glaring sunlight.  >.<

From the front images, you can see those long trumpet sleeves, the furry wrap around her neck and err... 2 'antennas' sticking up above the shoulder.

Both sides look similar except for the 'tattoo' on the stocking of the right leg.

For this mod, I did not use any transparent layer because it can't be applied without giving the armor a weird feel. Firstly, the bra area (including the dove-neck) is a flat piece of cloth over the cleavage and thus, cannot apply transparency because the cloth is not adhering to the skin surface. Secondly, the torso and side area is slightly floating above the skin layer and thus, will cause them to look like protruding or floating skin surface if transparent layer is forcefully applied.

So, I simply removed the dove-neck to give a bare-shoulder feel, shortened the trumpet sleeves to a length acceptable to my eyes (I really dislike trumpet sleeves and legs because they look so 70's...  DX  ), removed the stockings and not forgetting to shorten the skirt.

Let's look at the modified armor below.

In the two images above, you can see the shortened sleeves, skirt and trimmed dove-neck. Unfortunately, I cannot do anything more on the bra area due to the issue I mentioned earlier and adding to the difficulty, is that the area under the bra is actually a hole.  >.<"

Also, it is impossible to totally remove that sleeve from the golden arm band because of the discontinuity between the arm and the arm band. If the sleeves are removed, we will see the dismembered arms separated from below the arm band.   ~.~

From the rear view, you will notice the trimmed cloth and skirt which just sufficiently cover the panties.   XD

The shoes have also been slightly modified by recoloring to skin color in order to match the modified legs.

AION - Frigida Hauberk Mod

As a closing for the Frigida Armor set, we'll be looking at the Chain chest, a.k.a. Hauberk, this week. Readers are also in for a treat to a rare snow view during the winter season in AION. I have captured some screen shots and video with the weather effect maximized so viewers can see not only glittering white scenes but also falling snow.  :D

Back to the armor, if we compare the hauberk to its cloth, leather and plate version, there is a stark difference. There is actually no spiky prong rising over the shoulder!  O.O

 

Well... technically speaking, the same design (spiky prong) can still be found on the hauberk, but it is located at the left waist in a horizontal orientation, instead of protruding over the shoulder in a vertical orientation.

 

In terms of design, the hauberk also kind of reminds me of the "Sauro Commander Hauberk", especially when it is dyed in black color. Maybe because of the "scaly" surface and the similar slanted cut at the bottom of the dress.  >.<"

 

One interesting logic-defying design would be the 'floating bra' which is basically not attached to any other part of the armor. The bra is only made up of 2 bra cups and a few dangling chains, which is why I call it 'floating bra' or maybe 'stick-on' bra?  XD

Now, let us take a look at the original armor below.

Can you see the spiky prong between the left waist and thigh? That piece of armor was seen rising over the shoulder for the cloth, leather and plate version. Its base color is white-blue but because I dyed the armor black, it kind of turned grey.  ~.~

In the image above, you can clearly see why I call the bra 'floating' or 'stick-on'. Especially, if you look closely at the left bra, you will notice that there's only one chain connecting the bra to the neck armor.  >.<

From the front and rear zoom out images, we can see that the right arm and leg are cover in a dark translucent layer, like some kind of stockings.

And the view on the left side is eye popping! It is basically ALL CLEAR except for an armor piece painted on the waist!  O.O

If you still have your suspicion about that 'floating' bra, well.... now you can fully convince yourself of the non-attachment claim.   XD

From the two images above, you will notice that the dark translucent layers on the right arm and leg have been removed. In addition, the cloth at the right thigh has also been trimmed to show a super high cut.

Well... since the bra is already defying logic, might as well make full use of it.  XD    And so, I trimmed the lower part of the bra to show a little under-boobs.  >.<"

The rear views show the trimmed cloth on the butt. I was actually trying to trimmed it to nicely cover up the panties but.... well... stripped too much as usual....  @.@

Wow! I think I took the naked side to the next level by taking away that armor piece on the waist! The armor at the side is now basically held together by just a dangling chain at the waist.  O.O

Since I had modified the color of the right leg, I also need to modify the shoe so that the color of the lower leg match.

AION - Indigo Phoenix Hauberk Mod

For the last piece of the Indigo Phoenix armor set, we'll be looking at the chain chest, a.k.a. Indigo Phoenix Hauberk.

Overall, the hauberk looks like an full sleeve evening gown, which has a long slit running down from the chest area to the right hip. This design feels like a shirt that someone would wear from both sides and button up at the middle; except that the only button here seems to be the beaks of the 2 phoenix that hook together. And since the slit ran right through from the chest to the hip, it also gives an impression that it has gone commando underneath (i.e. no panties).   o.o

But of course, that's (going commando) not true. The designer had simply "erased" the side of the panties so it doesn't show up under the open slit. Don't ask me how a panties can be worn without the side straps because nobody really care about physics (at least not on costumes) in a game.  XD

So, let's take a look at this exciting commando-styled armor in the images below.

At the bottom of the armor on the left side of the body, we can see a trail of feathers, that looks like the extension of the phoenix's tail; one from the front and another from the back.

The overall design also shows off the leggy right leg.

Here, we can clearly see more of that sexy slit which 'cuts' the armor in halves, and held together where the beaks of the 2 phoenix meet.

Over here, we can see the tail extension of the phoenix, from the front right to the back bottom.

The back of the armor also has a slit that runs half way down.

Now that we know what the original armor looks like, let's see what can be done for the mod.

Basically, I took the original design and expanded it further by opening up more on the chest area and duplicating that commando effect on the left thigh. I also kind of like the idea of the tail extension so I tried to keep a part of it....Hmmm.. More like the front half of it.  XD

So, let's see the mod version below.

From the above image, you can see that the left side of the armor has been trimmed off, at the hip area, giving a panties-less feel. Don't worry (or maybe get too excited?) though. She's still covered underneath.  :p

The top 2 images show an expanded opened chest concept.

From the rear, you can now get to view both of her leggy legs instead of one.

The modified panties is just sufficiently covered by the tail feathers of the right phoenix.

Although the mod looks pretty simple. I did spent a lot of time trimming the little details to finally get it to the way I wanted.  >.<

The hauberk was dyed black in the above images so the phoenix and design are not sufficiently highlighted. It would probably look much better with a bright colored dye.  >.<"
